Week 1/9

6/21/2021

Description:
Start of internship and introduction to the project.

Synopsis:
The Robot Operating System and its features will be explored. The mentor will introduce the summer project.

Data:
The Robot Operating System (ROS) is a set of tools that allow people to build robot applications. In this project, the ROS will be used to create a conductor software. The summer project will include creating a software tool for dosimetry of interventional fluoroscopy, which will be tested through simulations.

6/22/2021

Description:
Interventional fluorscopy research.

Synopsis:
Interventional fluoroscopy and its uses will be researched.

Data:
Interventional fluoroscopy is an imaging modality that provides a real-time view of the body using x-rays. It is used to guide catheters through blood vessels, place devices in the body, position orthopedic implants, and more. The main parts of a fluoroscopy machine include the x-ray tube, collimator, image detector, and radiocontrast agents.

6/23/2021

Description:
Radiation dose limits and interventional fluoroscopy research.

Synopsis:
Radiation dose limits and dose delivered by interventional fluoroscopy will be researched.

Data:
Dose limits table.

6/24/2021

Description:
Real-time dosimetry methods research.

Synopsis:
Existing real-time dosimetry methods will be researched.

Data:
The RaySafe real-time dosimetry system uses badges and a monitor to provide medical staff with a real-time readout of dose rate. This system allows staff to know if they are receiving high radiation dose and what locations/positions minimize radiation dose.

6/25/2021

Description:
Robot Operating System installation and commands research.

Synopsis:
The Robot Operating System (ROS) will be installed and its commands will be studied.

Data:
The Robot Operating System was installed in Ubuntu, running on Parallels.
